Bavovnyatko is a fictional character, which was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on August 27, 2022.
The author of the drawing is Ukrainian journalist Svitlana Olishevskaya (she has a page on Instagram).
She had this work appeared on Facebook on August 25, 2022.
“In Ukrainian mythology replenishment! Bavovnyatko is a ghost animal, fluffy and restless. At night, Bavovnyatko quietly comes to the bases, warehouses, airfields, oil refineries, and other flammable objects of the Russians and starts playing with fire there, ”Olishevskaya wrote.
The name “Bavovnyatko” was created as a play on words.
In the Russian state media, the “explosion” is usually called “pops”, so as not to allegedly sow unnecessary panic among the population.
With the start of a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the so-called “pops” became more frequent in Russia, as well as in the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia – we are talking about explosions in military warehouses of Russian invaders and so on.
The word “pop” in Russian is not only a loud sound but also a plant “cotton” from which, in particular, the fabric is produced.
In Ukrainian, the cotton plant is translated as bavovna.
In the Ukrainian segment of the Internet, on social networks, “pops” in Russian military warehouses have been turned into a “bavovna” meme.
Hence the origin of the “animal” “Bavovnyatko”.
