Ignat explained why only 3 out of 8 Iskander-K missiles fired at Kyiv were shot down

The spokesman for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, explained why the air defense forces managed to shoot down only 3 out of 8 Iskander-K cruise missiles that the Russians fired at Kyiv from the Kursk region of Russia.

This was reported by the Clicker with reference to Yuriy Ignat’s statement on the national telethon broadcast on the morning of July 31, 2025.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the night of July 30 to 31, 2025, Russia attacked Ukraine with 309 Shahed-type attack drones, as well as 8 Iskander-K cruise missiles.

Moreover, the main blow this time fell on Kyiv.

The Ukrainian air defense shot down 288 drones and 3 Iskander-K missiles.

According to Ignat, the Iskander-K is no less dangerous than the Iskander-M ballistic missile, due to its short flight time and altitude.

Iskander-K, as the spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force emphasized, is ultra-low.

Because of this, the missile becomes inconspicuous for our air defense,” he said.

Ignat said that the best air defense of Ukraine manages to shoot down Russian Kh-101 cruise missiles.

There are more than two and a half thousand launched and about two thousand hit by air defense,” said the spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force.

Next, according to him, are the Kalibr missiles.

Also, the indicator there is more than half shot down. And less than half of the Iskander-K was shot down,” said Ignat.

On the morning of July 31, 2025, direct hits from 5 Russian Iskander-K missiles were recorded, one of which hit a residential building in Kyiv – as a result, the entrance of a nine-story building in the Svyatoshynskyi district was destroyed.
