Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Makarov made a statement after the police announced the disclosure of his case and established that he was not attacked by a stranger with a knife, but that he cut himself.
This is reported by the Clicker.
In his statement, Yuriy Makarov, in particular, said that he initially thought that he had been diagnosed with a terrible incurable disease – the initial stage of Alzheimer’s disease.
However, as of now, this has not been confirmed.
He also made a rather strange comment on the police statement that he cut himself (this police statement claims that Yuriy Makarov admitted that no one attacked him. That is, Yuriy Makarov admitted that in April 2025 he gave false testimony to the police when he stated that he was attacked with a knife by a man on the street).
“Friends, considering the recent unexpected and not very well-deserved wave of sincere, warm support from my side, I will share an interim report. Recently, against the background of extraordinary adventures and, as a result, problems with well-being, suspicions of serious brain disorders such as a tumor or the initial stage of Alzheimer’s disease appeared – such! Of course, this did not add optimism in either the short or long term and forced me to make plans for the gradual finalization of various life projects, but it stimulated my inherent black humor. In the meantime! After objective research, several specialists independently came to the conclusion that my problems are transient and caused by blood loss, surgical intervention, low hemoglobin plus the specific anatomy of the brain vessels, which have been making themselves felt for many years, practically since childhood – at different times this had such manifestations as regular headaches, epileptic seizures (once very long ago, stopped by themselves), episodes of fainting (once three years ago this happened in public while performing duties, right after a live broadcast), I didn’t advertise it, but I didn’t hide it too much either. So there’s no Alzheimer’s, no tumor, no stroke, hooray! Now the working scenario is such that if you drink the medicine and, most importantly, regain your physical tone, at least as before my adventure, then you can forget about the temporary deterioration, return to full working form, with appropriate productivity and again have the opportunity to love and respect yourself. You can’t wish for more. I will maintain a communication quarantine for some time until I feel a sufficient margin of safety for active interactions,” wrote Yuri Makarov.
“Regarding the circumstances of the attack on me – just like in the old Jewish joke: “You see a bank opposite, so we have an agreement with them, they don’t trade seeds, and I don’t give loans.” I do not comment on the conclusions of the investigation, and the police do not interfere with my health,” he added.
