Biography
Marta Havryshko was born on September 20, 1984 in the city of Mykolaiv, Lviv region of Ukraine.
In 2006, she graduated from the Faculty of History of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
In 2006-2009, she studied at the postgraduate course of the Faculty of History of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
Since 2009, she has been a junior research associate at the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Since 2019, she has been a research associate at the Department of Modern History at the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies.
In 2009, she defended her PhD thesis on the topic: “The National Socialist Regime in Germany as a Reflection of the Socio-Political Thought of Galicia (1933-1939)”.
In 2013-2015, she was the editor-in-chief of the scientific collection “Ukrainian Liberation Movement”.
Since 2017, she has been the author of the “Biographies of History” column on the academic website “Ukraine Moderna”.
Scientific interests: World War II, the Holocaust, sexual violence during wars, women’s/gender history, Ukrainian nationalist movement, oral history, politics of memory.

What kind of scandal happened around Marta Havryshko
In January 2025, Marta Havrishko was added to the database of the “Myrotvorets” center for crimes against Ukraine.
“Anti-Ukrainian propagandist. Participation in acts of humanitarian aggression against Ukraine. Spreading Russian propaganda. Propaganda of Russian fascism, Nazism and anti-Semitism. Conscious intentional actions aimed at undermining Ukraine’s defense capabilities and disrupting mobilization measures in favor of the Russian-fascist invaders in order to obtain personal financial gain. Conscious actions aimed at discrediting and demoralizing the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the “Peacemaker” website states.
In 2025, Marta Havryshko was dismissed from the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies.
On July 22, 2025, an open letter from a number of Western scholars was published “in defense of academic freedom and the Ukrainian historian Marta Havryshko.”
It, in particular, states that Marta Havryshko is being persecuted and harassed in Ukraine for investigating manifestations of neo-Nazism in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On July 29, 2025, Ukrainian historian and military Vakhtang Kipiani accused Marta Havryshko of manipulation and lies.
“Havryshko left Ukraine a long time ago and she is not a victim of war, she does not hear alarms, this is not her house, she does not know how to run with her child to shelter, nothing threatens her life,” the historian wrote.
In his opinion, Marta Havryshko wants to obtain refugee status in the United States.
