Who is Oleksiy Halabuda – what details of his biography are known

Biography

Oleksiy Halabuda was born on September 13, 1989 in the city of Bar, Vynnytsia region of Ukraine.

In 2010, he graduated from the Academy of the Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyy, specializing in managing the actions of units of mechanized troops.

In 2015, he received the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyy, III degree, for personal courage and heroism shown in protecting the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, loyalty to the military oath during the Russian-Ukrainian war.

In 2022, he became the Chief of Staff of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after the Black Zaporozhets.

He was the commander of the 28th mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign.

On October 23, 2024, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Oleksiy Khalabuda’s call sign is “Zlodyy”.

Married to Svitlana Khalabuda from the city of Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region of Ukraine.

The couple has a son.

On July 29, 2025, the advisor to the President of Ukraine on military affairs, Pavlo Palisa, revealed several details of Oleksiy Khalabuda’s biography.

“We have known each other for, it seems, a thousand years. To be more precise, since serving in the 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade. You were a battalion commander then. Well, a downright “daring” battalion commander. I am very glad that I have the opportunity to see you grow and develop all these years. Let’s be honest: you have always been taken to places where it is difficult – sometimes you will visit “Murashnyk”, then you will defend the capital from the enemy, then Bakhmut, then the canal, then Kordyumivka, then some other…” – wrote Pavlo Palisa.

“And now you have an unprecedentedly complex task – the Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces. Because creating a new type of Forces … I can only imagine. I have no doubt that you will succeed in everything. Well, how can you not cope with your professionalism, rationality and, ultimately, your sense of humor. I am proud of our friendship. The struggle continues!” — added the military advisor to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
