Biography

Roman Gribov was born in 1990 in Zolotonosha, Cherkasy region, Ukraine.

Studied at secondary school №3.

In 2008 he graduated from the Zolotonosha Vocational Lyceum as a bulldozer driver.

Since January 6, 2019, he indicated the 35th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mikhail Ostrogradsky in his profile on his Facebook page as his place of work.

On March 7, 2022, Valery Danilevsky, a deputy of the Cherkasy Regional Council, announced that Roman Gribov was the author of the legendary phrase about “a Russian warship.”

“Information is spreading in the media that the author of the words about the direction of movement of the “Russian warship” is our countryman from Zolotonosha. So, a message was received from the director of the Zolotonosha Vocational Lyceum, now a fighter of the local territorial defense Konstantin Korotkoy, that this, now without a doubt, legendary border guard, is a graduate of their educational institution. Gribov Roman Valentinovich in 2005 – 2008 studied at the Lyceum with a degree in bulldozer driver. Thanks to parents for a courageous son and teachers for the right upbringing! I wish him a quick and safe return from orc captivity! Glory to Ukraine!!!” Danilevsky wrote on Facebook.

On February 24, 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin staged a full-scale war against Ukraine, Roman Gribov was on Serpent Island.

The island was attacked by Russian invaders on ships.

They demanded that the border guards on the sharp Serpentine lay down their arms and surrender.

The Ukrainian border guard answered them: “Russian warship, go to hell.”

An audio recording with this phrase has spread all over the world.

On March 24, Ukraine and Russia held an exchange of prisoners of war, as a result of which Roman Gribov was released.

On March 29, the chairman of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Igor Taburets, awarded Roman Gribov with the medal “For Services to the Cherkasy Region.”
